How to use this calculator

Per-item stitching cost is the stitch count divided by 1,000, multiplied by a rate per 1,000 stitches. Z Digitizing's pricing guide puts that rate at around $1 to $3 per 1,000 stitches, which are the default low and high values here; change them to match a maker's quoted rate. The same guide puts standard digitizing at about $10 to $75 per design, and complex jacket-back or specialty designs at $65 to $150 or more. Digitizing is a one-time charge per design, so it is added once to the order rather than to each item. Quantity tiers follow the business-owner pricing example on that page: full rate for 1 to 11 pieces, 15% off for 12 to 47, and 30% off for 48 to 143. The discount is applied to the stitching cost only. Rush jobs requested inside 24 to 48 hours, the guide says, typically carry a 25% to 50% surcharge on the total, so the rush option multiplies the order total by 1.25 at the low end and 1.5 at the high end. The "effective per item" line divides the total by the quantity, which shows how a one-time digitizing fee weighs on a single piece and fades on a batch. Questions about this calculator

Why is one embroidered item so expensive per piece?

Digitizing and setup are paid once whatever the quantity. On one item they land entirely on that piece; on 24 they are shared.

Is the digitizing fee charged again on reorders?

Usually not. Once the file exists, a reorder of the same design normally skips it. Ask the maker for the DST or PES file so you own it.

Does the price include the shirt or cap?

No. This calculator covers embroidery only. Add the blank item, or send your own if the maker accepts customer-supplied goods.
